"Go now" was in 1965 de eerste hit voor The Moody Blues in de Top 40. De groep onderging in 1967 een wijziging in de samenstelling: Denny Laine en Clint Warwick werden in 1967 vervangen door John Lodge en Justin Hayward, waarmee ook de r&b van de groep plaatsmaakte voor klassieke invloeden. Days Of Future Passed leverde een gigantische hit op: "Nights in White Satin". De opvolger, "Tuesday Afternoon", werd in Nederland geen hit, maar wel in veel andere Europese landen. Nights In White Satin wordt in brede kring beschouwd als de meest geslaagde poging een stuk op te nemen waarin pop en klassiek gecombineerd zijn. Opvallend is dat "Nights in white satin" in Engeland niet verder kwam dan de 19e plaats als hoogste notering.
