So sad you were, so down and out.
Lost in a maze of dead-end roads
you tried to find your way back home, all on your own
So blind you were, your desperate eyes
refused to see and recognize,
all they could do was roam
There seemed to be no way to reach you,
'cause you were so afraid they'd see you, like that
and you were so afraid they'd hurt you
and laugh behind your back

So sad you were and all worn-out,
in need of help but much too proud,
you held your head up,
but I knew your heart was cold
So blind you were, so frightened of
a little warmth, a little love,
were things you'd never known

And when I smiled at you, you shivered
and when I touched your hand you quivered, darling
and when I softly kissed your lips, you opened up your soul

So glad you were to let it out, the pain,
the hurt you put to rout
and you became my friend
