"Sweet Child O' Mine" gaat over Axl toenmalige vriendin en uiteindelijk vrouw, Erin Everly en schijnt geïnspireerd te zijn op het nummer "Sail Away Sweet Sister" van Queen. Tijdens concerten zong Axl Rose wel eens in a capella het refrein van dat nummer. "Sail away sweet sister, sail across the sea, maybe you find somebody, that will love you half as much as me. My heart is always with you, no matter what you do. Sail away sweet sister, I will always be in love with you".
Het nummer stond 2 keer - kort achter elkaar - in de Top 40 (1988 en 1989). Toch bereikte het nummer slechts een 24e plaats als hoogste notering.

Songtekst
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
It takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Woah oh woah sweet child o' mine
Woah oh oh oh sweet love of mine
[Guitar break]
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I'd hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me
Of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain to quietly pass me by
Woah oh woah sweet child o' mine
Ohhhhh oh oh oh sweet love of mine 2x
[Guitar Solo]
Oooooohhhh yeah
Oh oh oh oh sweet child o' mine
Oh oh oh woah oh sweet love of mine
Woah oh oh oh sweet child o' mine
Oooh yea-ha
Oo-oo-oo-hoo sweet love of mine
[Guitar solo]
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Oo oo oh
Where do we go-oh
Where do we go
Ooh where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child
Ooh where do we go now
I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i
Ooh Where do we go now
Ah ah ah ah a-ooh woah
Where do we go
Ooooh oh where do we go now
Oh where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go-oh-oh
Woah ooh where do we go now
Ooh no no no no no
Sweet child
Sweet child o' mine
